Day 4

We applied for Phoebe's passport today at the police station.

Quickly in and out after her photo was taken.  It was the first day of a computer upgrade and the issuance of the new Chinese passports.  Phoebe was one of the first people to receive the new version and the media was there and we were asked if we could have our pictures taken and be filmed.  We possibly will be on the evening news here, but have no idea what channel or time to look for it.  This is the second time we were asked for our photos for public use.  Yesterday at the Civil Affairs office we were asked to pose at the glass window as we paid orphanage donation and the employee slowly counted out brand new $100 bills for a promotional photo.

After, we went to Walmart to do some shopping.  It is a bit different than Walmart in America.  Live fish, turtles, bull frogs, jars of things, some recognizable, some not at all.  Huge meat department, huge produce department, small frozen area.  Interesting flavors of pototo chips like crawfish, lemon tea and lime shrimp.  Other areas were very similar.

We stocked up on baby formula that tastes like melted vanilla ice cream, and diapers.  We bought a few munchies for the hotel room, wandered through an attached mall type area full of boutiques and little food shops, grabbed a Papa Johns mexican pizza to go and jumped on the bus to spend the rest of the day at the hotel room.

We start the days early here and by noon it feels like a full day has gone by.  Phoebe is still doing wonderfully, she remains the easiest, happiest baby ever.  She falls asleep for bed and naps without a fuss, makes no complaint as we cart her all over the city, waking her from naps, strangers touching her, no schedule.  She can sleep through anything, anywhere.  I fall in love with her more every minute.

  3. Saw the dried squid. Phoebe can come over and chew on some with Naomi. They use that for teething and then it becomes a snack. Phew-it stinks but they all like it. She is so beautiful!!!
