We went to Shamian Island today to sightsee and shop. It is about a 15 minute drive and it was a perfect day. Hot, but not very sunny and we were lucky to see no rain.
Shamian Island was given to France and the United Kingdom in the 19th century and the buildings look very colonial. The island is very pretty, lots of green, trees, flowers. Bronze statues of children everywhere. The White Swan hotel is here, where most adoptive families stayed in the past. It is being renovated and the U.S. Consulate and Medical Center have moved off of the island, so families are booking hotel rooms in the city of Guangzhou now.
Residents from the area come here to take their wedding photos and we saw a lot of people photographing and modeling
We spent some serious yuan at this store!
Micki found an air conditioner
We shopped like crazy for gifts for our children and families. I bought a lot of things to give to Phoebe over the years. I bought her a beautiful white silk traditional dress to be baptised in and an outfit for our upcoming Consulate appointment here.
We unloaded our bags back at the hotel and Phoebe got to check out some of her new things.
I found shoes

A girl can never have too many shoes!
